HAMMERSTEP / hammerstep.com

HAMMERSTEP is a Brooklyn-based creative collective that uses high-intensity choreography, cutting-edge technology, and nontraditional audience engagement to express their limitless imagination through dance, inciting positive change in the communities they embrace.

HAMMERSTEP is intent on breaking barriers that constrict traditional dance forms and those that constrict growth in urban communities around the globe. Founded in 2009 by two-time solo World Champion Irish dancer Garrett Coleman and former lead of Riverdance Jason Oremus, HAMMERSTEP is forever changing the face of dance. The group’s raw and percussion-driven approach to artistic expression draws from historically rebellious dance forms, including Irish dance, tap dance, hip-hop, and African stepping.

HAMMERSTEP's latest endeavor is a site-specific, immersive theater experience for New York City audiences, called INDIGO GREY. Based in the postapocalyptic future, the performance will feature a choose-your-own adventure style format in which the audience members will become characters and walk through the space, fully enveloped by animated projection mapping, responsive and interactive tech elements, the group’s signature style of dance, and a live and original soundscape. INDIGO GREY is in development at NEW INC and is expected to premiere in 2016.
