Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Maria Stanisheva is a director and producer of documentary and animated films. She is a graduate of Central European University and New York Film Academy’s documentary filmmaking program. Stanisheva divides her time between freelance video production and her own film projects. Her filmography includes Father (2012), an award-winning animated documentary featured in over 120 film festivals and winner of the Golden Dove for Animated Film at DOK Leipzig Film Fest. In 2016, Stanisheva founded ANIMADOCS, a production house specializing in animation, documentary, and everything in between.
ANIMADOCS creates a variety of media content and specializes in educational and human rights campaigns. The first project created under the label was an animated campaign about women’s rights violations in Saudi Arabia, commissioned by Human Rights Watch. The campaign generated over six million views in the first week of its release and was featured in the New York Times, Euronews, and the Independent.
