Emma Jurczynski

Emma is a British-Canadian designer and researcher from London who has practiced in studios across London, Berlin, Mexico City, Boston and New York. Her practice explores how materials can be playfully transformed through reuse, allowing their material lifecycles to be creatively extended. This practice is driven by a strong interest in exploring the social implications of design which incorporates the reuse, reinvention, and reimagining of existing materials. Emma investigates this cycle of practical utility primarily using prototypes and film. In pursuit of this purpose, Emma recently collaborated with IKEA to design and construct a shelter using only dimensional timber to reimagine our relationship with nature. Her commitment to designing with discarded material has earned her the first prize and sustainability award in a global competition, which was awarded in recognition of a proposal for a reused timber pavilion.
